Bratislava, Piestany

We went on a day trip to Bratislava. We parked the car in front of the cafe and went to visit the castle.
Bratislava Castle (Hrad Bratislavský słow., Hung Pozsonyi var, German Pressburger Burg) - The castle is situated on a hilltop in the center of Bratislava on the banks of the Danube.

fortified buildings in Bratislava hill already existed in antiquity - the hill was the Acropolis, situated at the foot of the Celtic settlement. His buildings erected is also the Romans and Slavs. In the early Middle Ages the hill along with the entire area came under the authority of the Hungarians. Established as the tenth century castle of stone, turned into a defensive fortress in the fifteenth century. In the sixteenth century it was rebuilt in Renaissance style, and a hundred years later - in the baroque style. During the reign of Mary Theresa of Austria - the queen of Bohemia and Hungary, became the seat of Prince Albert of Cieszyn. In 1784 the castle was given the Catholic clergy (Catholic school was built here), then in 1802 there was founded a military barracks. In 1811 the castle was destroyed in a fire wznieconego by Napoleon's army. It was rebuilt only in the fifties of the twentieth century.

present on the premises of the castle there are exhibits of the Historical Museum (Historické museum), which is part of the Slovak National Museum (Slovenské Národná Museum) in Bratislava.
